You applied fake nails but after removing them your actual nails got damaged, right ? So, in this article you will learn how to fix damaged nails after removing fake nails.

It does not matter which type of fake nails you applied whether plastic tips, gel tips or press on nails. This guide will help you to treat your damaged nails fast in a gentle way.

Though fake nails look so good if you have short nails or a habit of biting your nails. The adhesive used while applying fake nails, damages your nail bed. Also it can make your cuticles dry, nails brittle and weak.

So, below I am sharing some easy step by step method to treat your damaged nails :

Step 1 : Soaking In Soapy Water

  • After removing your fake nails, the first step you have to do is to take a bowl and add warm water
  • Then add few drops of a gentle shampoo
  • A pinch of salt and mix everything
  • Then place your hand in the bowl for about 5 minutes
  • This process will help to loose residual adhesive or any dirt from your nails.

Step 2 : Cleaning

  • Take a soft bristle brush
  • Brush your nails gently to remove dirt and adhesive
  • Then wash your hand and nails under running water
  • Using a soft towel dry your hands
  • This process will help to properly clean your nails.

Step 3 : Removing Dead Layer

  • Although your nails are clean but they are still damaged and brittle
  • Now use a nail buffer
  • Start buffing your nails from one direction to another
  • Make sure to be very gentle while buffing, because your nails are already weak and damaged
  • After buffing your nails use a cotton pad to clean your nails
  • The idea of using nail buffer is just to remove the dead layer from your nails.

Step 4 : Cutting and Nail Filing

  • You will notice the edges of your nails are damaged and uneven
  • Using a nail cutter, cut your nails
  • Then use a nail filer and file your nails to smoothen the edges of your nails
  • Again use a cotton pad and wipe your nails
  • By the time you reach this 4th step, your nails will look much better then earlier

Step 5 : Provide Strength to Your Nails

  • After proper cleaning and removing dead layer from your nails, you need a nail strengthener
  • To make homemade nail strengthening oil, take a bowl and add
  • 1 teaspoon – olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon – jojoba oil
  • 1 Capsule – vitamin E
  • 7 drops – lavender essential oil
  • Mix everything and pour the oil in a bottle and shake
  • Your diy nail strengthening oil is ready
  • Now apply this oil on your nails and cuticles
  • Massage gently in circular motion to let it infuse, wipe away the excess oil
  • This oil will help to nourish your nails and cuticles. Also treat them from damage and make your nails strong
  • You can apply this oil twice a day.

P.S. You can apply this oil even after your nails got recovered from damage. As it will provide daily nourishment to your nails.

It simply depends on the damaged caused. If your nails got much damage it will take easily around 5-6 days to get normal. If the damage is less your nails can easily recover within 2-3 days.

The best thing to do is to wait until your nails get back to normal. If you apply nail polish to your damaged nails it will chip sooner because of nails being weak.
